Locals are wondering whether an elaborate crop circle is the work of perfectionist pranksters or a message from outer space.

The perfectly-formed circle appeared overnight in a cornfield near Singing Hills Golf Club, Albourne.

It contains a symbol that could come from one of dozens of different cultures worldwide.

Crop circles that appeared in a field near Ditchling Beacon at the beginning of August were dismissed as fake by paranormal researcher James Webster, who said the design was fairly simple.

But this latest discovery has baffled experts. Some believe the features are the result of mystery whirlwinds or earth energies.

There have been about 100 crop circles in the past decade and a team known as Southern Circular Research regularly investigates the mysterious formations.
