Hastings United scored their first goals from open play as their impressive start to the Premier Division campaign continued with a 2-0 home win over Hednesford Town.

George Wakeling's side are now unbeaten in four after losing their first two games following promotion, but until Saturday all three of their goals had been scored from the penalty spot.

United were good value for their victory against a Hednesford side who arrived unbeaten but who rarely threatened Dave King's goal.

Wakeling said: "It was a very solid performance and I thought we deserved the three points.

"Defensively I was very pleased with us. They had Kevin Francis up front and his size makes him a handful but I thought we coped with him well."

Wakeling gave first starts of the season to Duncan McArthur and Steve Yates and both had early opportunities before the hosts broke the deadlock in the 27th minute.

McArthur's free-kick picked out Stuart Myall and his powerful header went in via the upright.

In the second half, Adam Flanagan saw his header cleared off the line while Derek Rae went close at the other end before United doubled their lead in the 61st minute.

Landry Zahana-Ohi set up Yates for a pop at goal and although Hednesford keeper Mark Gayle blocked his shot, youngster Ellis Remy was on hand to fire home the loose ball for his first league goal since moving to the Pilot Field.

Crawley Town were hardly at their best but they still pulled off an excellent 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Bath City at Twerton Park.

The hosts overcame the early loss of Paul Millsom with a head injury to dominate the first half.

Substitute Adrian Foster squandered three opportunities while Reds' best effort of the half came when Ernie Cooksey, who was making his full debut, fired wide after 21 minutes.

But Crawley came out firing at the start of the second half and took the lead within a minute of the re-start.

Ian Payne's cross left Bath goalkeeper Nick Bryant stranded and Nic McDonnell headed the ball across goal to Dave Stevens who poached his second of the season from close range.

McDonnell should have doubled their lead five minutes later but his shot on the turn produced an excellent save by Bryant.

Bath rarely threatened an equaliser although Dan Cleverley caused one or two anxious moments for the visitors.
