Coach Peter Moores is backing his Sussex side to finally drag themselves off the bottom of the National League.
Victory over Hampshire Hawks at Hove in the final floodlit game of the season tonight will lift them above Middlesex and keep their hopes alive of climbing out of the bottom four and avoiding first-class opposition in the C&G Trophy next season.
Sussex won only their third game of the season when they completed the double over Northamptonshire on Sunday.
"All round that was a much better performance," said Moores. "We had a good chat beforehand about our approach. The Kookaburra ball does all sorts early on so you have to be more watchful and pick your moments when you attack.
"One of our mistakes this season has been trying to dominate early on, but Bas Zuiderent set things up and Chris (Adams) batted nicely to see us home."
Moores was pleased with the new ball spells of James Kirtley and Robin Martin-Jenkins. He said: "They were outstanding, It was the best they had bowled for two months in that competition."
Hampshire are two places and six points better off than Sussex.
Moores added: "We might still creep out of the bottom four but the important thing in the last three games is to get our tactical approach right and our confidence up for next season."
Sussex: Zuiderent, Carpenter, Goodwin, Adams, House, Ambrose, Martin-Jenkins, Innes, Davis, Taylor, Kirtley.
Hampshire: Johnson, Laney, Adams, Francis, Kendall, Udal, Mascerenhas, Hamblin, Prittipaul, Brunnschweiler, Tomlinson.
