Eastbourne Borough earned a home tie against AFC Newbury with a decisive 4-1 preliminary round replay win over Croydon Athletic at Priory Lane.
But the game was wide open until the 82nd minute when the Ryman League division one side had keeper Rob Frankland sent off for flooring Matt Allen as the striker burst through.
Skipper Daren Pearce fired the penalty past substitute keeper Ian Phillips to put Borough 3-1 up.
Borough made all the early running and took a 12th minute lead when Scott Ramsay nodded on a Matt Crabb lob into the area for Matt Smart to open the scoring.
Allen made up for an earlier miss by slotting in the second provided by Crabb in the 35th minute.
Borough looked to be coasting but, as the interval approached, Billy Jackson pulled Croydon back into the game with a stunning drive.
Croydon came out hungry for an equaliser in the second half and Paul Stark did well to keep out a Tony Quinton volley.
But the Pearce penalty ended the game as a contest and, with the visitors down to ten men, Crabb added a spectacular fourth in the last minute.
Horsham made amends for a poor performance on Saturday by winning 2-1 at Lordswood.
Lordswood took the lead against the run of play in the 24th minute through Gene Clouts' deflected shot.
Hornets equalised four minutes before half time when Steve Payne's corner was fired back into the danger area and Eddie French volleyed home.
Ten minutes into the second half Rob Collins was upended in the area but Paul Piggott saved Gavin Geddes' spot kick.
Horsham's winner came just after the hour as James Grant set up Payne to fire past Piggott.
Withdean 2000 have signed Ollie Rowland from Whitehawk.
