City officials are warning people not to take glass on the beach ahead of this weekend's Stella Screen event.
Brighton and Hove city councillor Ian Duncan spent the day by the sea yesterday to highlight our Keep Glass Off The Beach campaign.
Coun Duncan said: "We are promoting the idea people should not go on to the beach with glass bottles or containers.
"This is not going to be anything like as big as the Norman Cook event but we want to make beach visitors aware of the campaign. It's a precaution."
The group were on Brighton beach near the West Pier where scaffolding was being erected for The Stella Screen event.
The films were due to be shown in July but the event was postponed after 250,000 people descended on the seafront for Fatboy Slim's Big Beach Boutique event.
This weekend film lovers can watch Moulin Rouge tonight. Quadrophenia was replaced by Stephen Spielberg's classic movie Jaws which, in turn, has been swapped for the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough tomorrow.
Both events begin at 7.30pm, with films starting at dusk.
Councillor Duncan said: "The message is, don't bring glass. Bring plastic."
Up to 15,000 people are expected to attend the event this weekend, and staff will be on hand to pick up litter.
They will also ask people to pour drinks into plastic bottles before going to the seafront area.
