I enjoyed reading the article on St Augustine's and St Saviour's, Brighton (The Argus, August 1). I lived in Florence Road and went to school opposite St Augustine's and attended the church. I was about 11 years of age (I am now 92).

The services were taken by the Reverend Page. What a lovely, homely, restful place. I was married there in 1933. In June this year, my husband and I had our marriage blessed by the Reverend Father Trevor, a happy gentleman who works hard and is always ready to help. My two children were christened there.

The congregation is made up of friendly people who greet you on arrival and are always willing to assist you.

The monthly magazine is very popular and purposeful, well edited and produced in advance of the month.

Could a smaller church be built on the site of this beautiful building? Do not let it waste like the West Pier. Do what has to be done but be merciful.
