Stunned teenager Maddy Stevens has become the newest BBC children's presenter after winning a TV talent contest.

Maddy, 19, from Eastbourne won a 12-month contract after viewers voted her their favourite in the BBC's TV Talent hunt.

After receiving the news live on BBC1 on Friday she said: "I'm so shocked. It's unbelievable - I just want to cry."

Thousands of people auditioned for the role in the BBC's Making It hunt for a presenter, launched in April as part of the BBC Talent initiative.

Judges whittled them down to just ten and for the past four weeks they have been put through their paces on TV.

Viewers have seen them do live links, perform tasks and learn the tips of the trade.

Maddy, who had been working for an opticians in Eastbourne, said: "It's been a real challenge, lots of hard work but loads of fun. I'm really looking forward to joining CBBC, it's a dream come true."

She starts work in CBBC studios on Monday.
