One of these two Brighton-based artists paints external environments while the other does internal environments.
Both explore these worlds in large, colourful abstract paintings.
Stanyard is inspired by places she has travelled to and by photographs of the places she would like to visit.
In Andalucia, she conjures up the heat of Spain with flame-like intensity.
The canvas is dominated by yellows and oranges and you can almost feel the oppressive heat which hangs in the Spanish air.
She says: "I am interested in epic, dramatic landscapes, such as oceans, beaches, mountains or cities, where detail is reduced to its microscopic form and trees and buildings become small specks."
Parson's Memory Blanket consists of squares of pure colour on a white blanket. As the title indicates, it is like a painted quilt.
Having trained as a sculptor, she says she likes to paint because "it's much easier to give an image to an emotional or physical response".
The colours in this particular painting relate to her first memory as a child.
The layering of the coloured shapes seemingly has the effect of movement, just as Parsons recalls the colours of her first memory moving against each other.
As she says: "My current work is based on the intensity of pigment and the interplay between colours. Oil painting is a fantastic medium - it's like carving in paint, you can make the pigments really work. I like the paintings to sing."
