Brighton Bears under-18s head to the southern fringes of London this weekend keen to make cup progress.
Bears, coached by Phil Waghorn, have won three out of their five games to date and meet London Towers at Chessington tomorrow in the second round of the cup.
Their latest success came in a thriller with London United which they edged 73-72.
United were up for most of the contest, staged at Richmond College, but Sam Mead inspired a Bears comeback.
Waghorn said: "We timed our run to perfection and hit the front with five minutes to go.
"They had two free throws on the final buzzer but missed them both and we got the win."
Bears under-16s have had a mixed season so far while the three younger age groups are just getting their campaigns underway.
Waghorn is upbeat about Brighton Magic's chance in the national women's set-up.
Magic have switched their home games to Durrington this season and host London Towers tonight (5.45) ahead of the Worthing Thunder men's game.
That follows a successful experiment towards the end of last season when they beat rivals Plymouth Racers in front of an appreciative Worthing crowd.
Waghorn can see the same two teams fighting it out for honours again this time.
New Australian Kirsty Dallas has been a great signing and coach Waghorn was also pleased to welcome 6ft 2ins Sarah Cooper from Thames Valley.
Magic were 69-44 winners over Swindon Sonics last Saturday to keep their title bid in division two south on course.
