Jimmy Quinn stormed out of the Dripping Pan last night after watching his promotion-chasing side flounder against inferior opponents.
The Rooks, who thumped seven goals past bottom club Chertsey on Saturday, failed to continue their goalscoring boom against Leatherhead who are only four places above Chertsey in Ryman League division one south.
Justin Gray in the visitors' goal frustrated Lewes on numerous occasions but it was the home team's lacklustre performance that really infuriated Quinn.
Lewes, who are second in the table behind Carshalton, only really threatened Leatherhead in the closing stages and midfielder Gareth Green explained Quinn's hurried exit.
Green said: "He's not happy. It was one of those nights, their keeper made three or four good saves but we should have beaten them. We have scored quite a few goals recently but Leatherhead defended well and we didn't seem to get any breaks in front of goal.
"Jimmy is pretty disappointed because he expects us to play better than that but we are still well placed for promotion. I think we have a big squad and hopefully we can mount a challenge until the end of the season."
Green was one of the few Lewes players to catch the eye at a rain-lashed Dripping Pan.
He played the left wing back role in Lewes' 3-5-2 formation and he shot straight at Gray after being released by Lee Newman in the 29th minute.
Luke Gedling then forced the Leatherhead keeper into a save before Phil Ruggles twice tested Russell Tanner in the home goal.
Lewes gradually improved after the break and ex-Worthing player Paul Kennett had a header cleared off the line in the 65th minute and Matt Allen's follow-up was ruled out for offside.
Two minutes later Ali Chaaban really should have given the visitors the lead when Wesley Cain released him in the area, but Chaaban dragged his right foot finish wide.
The Rooks piled forward late on and Marc Cable's header was tipped over while Danny Davis chipped just wide after the offside flag stayed down.
