I received a telephone call from someone a very long way away with an accent so thick I could not understand her.
I readjusted my thinking and used all my concentration to make out what she was saying.
She said she was from Sainsbury's and asked if I was Mrs Patricia and would I be interested in saving money on my energy bills? I said no and ended the call.
I saw in The Argus (November 8) that call centres for various companies are being set up in India and think my call may well have come from one of them. Okay - but it is sometimes hard enough to understand the spoken English of some of the British call-centre operators without the added interference of an international telephone line.
I dread to think one day I may have to use one of these call centres if I have a bad problem.
