Many Brighton and Hove Albion fans may agree that two of the most valuable goals in the club's recent history were works of art to rival Da Vinci.
However, season ticket-holder Roy Scarborough believed they were worthy of being preserved for posterity in two oil paintings which took him two years to complete.
The first painting shows Stuart Storer scoring the last goal at the Goldstone Ground, in Albion's 1-0 win over Doncaster in April 1997.
The second captures the moment Robbie Reinelt kept the club in the league by striking the winner against Hereford the following month.
After painstakingly finishing the pictures, Mr Scarborough has just managed to track down both players to add their signatures.
He will put the 2ft-by-3ft paintings up for auction at an event organised by the Albion Collectors' and Historians' Society next month.
Mr Scarborough, 63, of Station Road, Hailsham, said: "Although I used photos to get the scenes exactly right, most of what happened is still vivid in my mind."
He caught up with Storer when his current club, Hinckley United, won at Crawley Town on Saturday. A week earlier he had travelled to Essex to find Reinelt, who now plays for Grays Athletic.
His next aim is to produce an oil painting of the club's current star striker, Bobby Zamora.
The auction and fair runs from 11am to 2pm on Sunday, December 1, in the hospitality suite at the Withdean stadium.
