Big Beat meets the Big Apple and The Bays please themselves - that's this weekend's pick of the dancefloors.
BIG BEAT BOUTIQUE, Return To New York Tour, Concorde 2, Brighton, November 15
When Big Beat meets the Big Apple Concorde 2 is set for a super-sized night. Headliners Soulwax will be unleashing their throbbing rock and electro. Riding high on the success of their album 2 Many DJs expect cheeky bootlegs, fast mixing and great tunes. In support will be Erol Alkan (Trash), bringing his grown-up indie feel to the south coast. Hailed as the saviour of clubbing by The NME, Erol delivers anything from The Hives to Cyndi Lauper, right, but still manages to rock everywhere he plays. If that's not enough, the legendary Arthur Baker, producer of Planet Rock, will be spinning the best breaks and beats. Tickets £10/ £12.50. Doors open 10pm. 01273 772770.
SUBSTANCE, The Ocean Rooms, Brighton, November 15
You can never tell what The Bays will do when they play live - they don't even know themselves. They never rehearse, they never record anything and every set is improvised on the spot. Marshalled by rabid drummer Andy Gangadeen their sets take in funk, drum-and-bass, house, techno and hip-hop but in which order is anyone's guess. After rave reviews in Jockeyslut and a stunning performance at this year's Big Chill festival, their mission to put: 'The live element back into this kind of music' is well on-course. Tickets £5/£6. Doors 10pm. 01273 699069.
