So, a Brighton and Hove city councillor is complaining about cars parked in George Street, Hove. However, who is to blame but the councillors themselves?
Several years ago, Boots, Co-op, Iceland and Woolworths enlarged their premises and reduced their prices to encourage customers to the area.
They had a large car park holding 140 cars with no time limit. You paid for the hours you wanted, which enabled you to shop and still have time for a meal.
The councillors sold them down the river by allowing Tesco to build a supermarket on the old gasworks site and by offering to build a new school on the car park.
So the car park has gone and so have the shoppers. In exchange, you will get Tesco with a measly 35 car spaces for its staff and customers.
Once this supermarket opens, it will be the downhill for the rest of the area. If you can get all you want in one store, why go elsewhere?
