I am writing to praise the objective reporting of an incident involving some suspicious photographs ("Terrorist? I'm an art student", November 15).
The police were quite rightly contacted by Boots when the shop developed some negatives showing a man with guns, maps of Washington DC and pieces of paper with "Kill, kill, kill" written on them.
This was during the recent terrible spree of sniper attacks in Washington DC and a couple of weeks before the two people thought to be responsible were arrested.
Officers spoke to the student involved and explained the implications of her actions.
I want to take this opportunity to remind people to be vigilant and to understand that the police always take prompt and direct action when these matters are reported to them.
-Chief Superintendent Doug Rattray, Brighton and Hove City Divisional Commander
