A double-decker bus driver was left suffering shock this afternoon after his vehicle smashed into a 600-year-old book shop in Lewes.
The number 729 bus, carrying eight passengers, hit the 15th Century Bookshop in Lewes High Street shortly after 2pm.
The driver was helped away from the vehicle, suffering from shock, but no one was hurt.
The roof of the bus was sliced off and crashed to the ground. The book shop was slightly damaged and one upstairs window was broken.
Firefighters from Lewes and Uckfield were called to remove the roof so the bus could be hauled away.
Susan Mirabeaud, owner of the book shop, was inside at the time. She said the sound of the collision was "like a bomb had gone off".
Two of the eight passengers on the bus were on the upper deck, which collided with the top part of the building.
Most of the passengers were able to leave the wrecked vehicle without help.
