Beware of the three-sided temporary yellow plastic "No Parking" signs on the streets of Brighton and Hove.
They may have information on a sheet of white paper stuck on one of the three sides, which you may well not see.
You will then, most likely, find yourself issued with a parking ticket.
You may wish to complain about this to the Parking Information Office in North Street. If you write, you will receive only a series of standard letters in reply.
I have sent more than 20 pages of information, in four letters. They have obviously not been read by anyone at the office. Since May, I have received 12 standard letters. The last arrived on September 12 and, as it has not been followed up by the office, I called by.
There, on November 10, I spoke to a lady who eventually told me she was only acting as a "goalkeeper" and whatever I said or did would not alter the situation in the foreseeable future.
She was not going to touch the computer, so the powers-that-be would not even know I had called at the office.
She said there was an enormous backlog of work and not enough staff to clear it. She said about 40 per cent of the fines would be cancelled in due course.
If the backlog is in the order of only 500 cases, 200 of our citizens will be sent 2,400 unnecessary letters.
Now you have been warned, you can pay the fine - right or wrong - thus saving yourselves a lot of trouble. After all, the fine is only £30.
