A spectacular lantern parade lit up city centre streets over the weekend.
A samba band led revellers at the start of the Winter Festival in St James's Street, Brighton.
Thousands of spectators lined the pavements on Saturday to enjoy the carnival atmosphere created by the event.
The parade was organised by the St James's Street Action Group in Kemp Town.
They raised £8,000 with help from local businesses, the Co-Operative Society, The Argus and Brighton and Hove City Council.
Organiser Alan Bond said: "The weather was good and it was fantastic to see so many people.
"The theme was the city and the sea and the lanterns represented mythical sea creatures. They were presented to traders to hang in their windows."
