Craig Carolan scored six times as Brighton maintained their unbeaten record in the Kent/Sussex Regional League with an 8-1 win at Gillingham Anchorians.
Player-coach Carolan now has 21 league goals in eight games and his experience of playing at a higher level appears to be steering Brighton to the promotion spot which has just eluded them for the last two years.
Skipper Carlo Missirian said: "He could have had more, but he is doing really well. If he gets a chance he buries it and for the last three years, although we have had a lot of good goalscorers, we haven't had someone that good."
Missirian also praised another impressive team display which extended Brighton's lead to five points at the top of the table ahead of Saturday's showdown with second placed Blackheath.
Paul Watson and Kevin Brown also found the target.
