I read that the South-East England Regional Assembly has agreed to support proposals for road and rail developments along the South Coast corridor (November 22).

One of the assembly's suggestions is a half-hourly frequency express rail service between Southampton and Brighton.

This service all but exists. SouthCentral already runs an hourly Hove-to-Southampton service, and Wessex Trains-SouthWest Trains run an hourly Brighton-to-Fareham service.

With a little tweaking, surely these services could be integrated to provide the Southampton-to-Brighton service at little or no extra cost?
