Justice was not done or seen to be done during the trial of a driver whose truck killed four Sussex teenagers in Australia.

The driver, Scott Pitkin, was cleared of offences during a criminal court case which followed the accident three years ago in Queensland.

However, at an inquest in Brighton yesterday, it was revealed Pitkin was under the influence of drugs and was speeding.

The law in Australia is the same as in England, in that Pitkin cannot be tried again for any offences resulting from the crash.

The families of the dead youngsters are right to call for a judicial review so that this could lead to a change in the law as is being considered by our government.

The jury in Pitkin's case might have come to a different view had members known he had worked a 96-hour week, taken the drugs, had faulty lights on his truck and been driving too fast.

It won't bring back these teenagers but it might save more lives down under.
