A large red neon ribbon will light up the front of a Brighton night club to mark World Aids Day.

The ribbon is on a blank wall above the entrance to the Revenge Club as part of the run-up to Sunday.

The aim of the day is to provide the public with information about HIV/Aids.

It is also used as an opportunity to celebrate life, remember those who have died and raise money to provide support.

A spokesman for Sussex Beacon, a national care centre providing specialist support for men and women with HIV/AIDS related illness, said: "The ribbon will declare to the people of Brighton that people, gay and straight, living with HIV in the United Kingdom is set to increase by 50 per cent in the next five years.

"Since the beginning of the Aids epidemic, 45,000 people have been diagnosed with HIV in the UK."

Brighton and Hove Mayor David Watkins, Sussex Beacon director Steve Curry and club manager Collin Day switched the ribbon on last night.
