Barry Cocum's suggestion that parents of children who attend Brighton College Prep School should be allowed to park on double yellow lines is appalling (Letters, November 25).

It is bad enough these people feel no guilt driving 20 miles to school while the rest of us breathe their fumes and risk life and limb on overcrowded roads.

Can they really expect special treatment when having to park?

Double yellow lines indicate it is dangerous to park. Why would anybody want to create danger around a school by parking on them? Can the parents not car-share? Can they not park at a reasonable distance from the school and walk? Can their children not attend a school nearer home?

In Saltdean, we operate a "walking bus service" each morning to cut down on car use around our primary school. We will gladly help Brighton College Prep School set up a similar scheme because we know car drivers, not traffic wardens, are the greater menace to our children.

We will have to be told which bus to catch since a bus ticket, I find, is so much cheaper than a parking ticket.
