I have no objection to the debate about culture continuing but when people write asking us to "imagine the Brighton Festival Chorus head-to-head with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra" (Letters, December 10), it sounds like Arsenal being asked to play the Harlequins.
Choirs do not "go head-to-head" with orchestras, they work with them.
Indeed, the Brighton Festival Chorus has appeared with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle on a number of occasions in The Dome and Sir Simon has been delighted with the results.
I seem to recall that his only concern was the state of The Dome at the time. It would be good if somebody of his stature could be encouraged to return, following the excellent refurbishment.
Brighton should be proud of its internationally renowned choir, which has worked at home and abroad with all the major British orchestras and many of the world's greatest conductors.
Indeed, the chorus has recently won an award in France for a recording of a work by Debussy, recorded in French with a French conductor and orchestra.
In short, the debate should continue but people such as Ann Prodinger should get their facts straight before they put pen to paper.
