Two of Tchaikovsky's greatest ballets get a Christmas/New Year outing thanks to the St Petersburg Ballet.

Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake contain some of the composer's finest music, chock-full of great tunes and fabulous melodies. Both ballets tell well-known stories and Christmas and the New Year is fast becoming a traditional time for ballet.

The St Petersburg Ballet is a comparatively young company, having been formed in 1994, but it has received great critical acclaim.

Both ballets are extremely demanding on its dancers and Sleeping Beauty depends almost entirely on the Princess Aurora for some lengthy classical dancing. and some of the most brilliant names in ballet have danced it.

For Swan Lake it's the whole thing that dazzles. Tchaikovsky used some of his best folk tunes in this tale of doomed love and it is a score which can truly stan alone from the dance.

Both ballets are impressive and suitable for all the family.

Sleeping Beauty can be seen on December 28 at 7pm and December 29 at 2pm and 7pm. Swan Lake is on January 3 at 7pm and January 4 at 2pm. Tickets cost £5-£27.50, call 01273 709709.
