I lead a full life of total integrity and passion. What sins would the Reverend John Webster have me repent (Letters, December 8)?
My brother forgives me my sins once a year as directed by his religion. How kind, how smug and patronising. "There, there, little girl, I forgive you and you can start with a clean sheet." I suppose it makes him feel a lot better.
People who are not inadequate or sinful but who feel they are having problems enjoying life to the full potential of their personality can easily be taken advantage of by those with more positive views of themselves, who then garner all the best in this world and leave the crumbs to the penitent sinful. This is clearly a political issue to keep us in our place.
Unfortunately, the meek will not inherit the Earth and they then seek solace in some other, imaginary place.
