Ice skating fans are still smarting over the closure of the SS Brighton in West Street more than 35 years ago.
The Sussex Ice Rink in Queen Square has, since 1970, been the only place in the resort where people can skate all year round.
It is not particularly big or beautiful.
But it is all Brighton and Hove has and is likely to have for the next few years.
Now owners Roy and Sherry Scott are selling the rink to concentrate more on their family.
Let's hope they find someone as devoted to ice as they have been prepared to invest cash in it.
There are hopes a brand new rink will eventually be built at Black Rock.
But that will take a long time if it happens at all.
In the meantime, we cannot allow skaters to be frozen out of the city.
