Lewes MP Norman Baker is backing a bid to cut the amount of waste food which ends up in dustbins.
The Lib Dem MP will demonstrate the Green Cone device at his constituency home tomorrow.
The cone, installed in the garden, digests food and can even cope with an entire Christmas meal, bones and all. The device is partially buried and almost never needs emptying because most of the waste is converted to water and carbon dioxide.
Unlike composters, it creates very little solid residue.
Mr Baker says the cone is an important step in heading off the landfill crisis as tips run out of room.
He said "We need to find real practical ways of diverting organic waste from the waste stream."
