Generous Brighton Cougars made sure all the charity was off the court as they went into Christmas in great heart.

The National League outfit did their bit for The Argus Appeal when they handed over an array of cuddly toys collected at a home game.

The toys were gratefully received and will help cheer Christmas for youngsters within The Argus circulation area.

On the court, Cougars scored a precious 84-70 division two south success at Bognor Pirates to end their four-game losing slump.

Cougars broke open a close game with a 17-4 run over five minutes giving them a 12-point lead three minutes into the second period.

They led 67-50 at the three-quarter point though tight defence then brought Pirates back to 70-63.

Steve McQueen and Gareth Morgans hit threes to spark a 14-2 Brighton run and seal the win.

Morgans led all scorers on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 from the line. He included three three-pointers at 50 per cent.

Coach Mike Blatchford said: "That was a huge win for us coming on the road and against a spirited team.

"We still have to work on getting the ball into the post and our turnovers are hurting us, but our confidence is back."

Forwards Tom Cousins and Jan Albrectson sparked Pirates' best moments but coach Dave Goss slammed his side's floor shooting as "pathetic".

Cougars host Cardiff tonight (7.30pm) and are hopeful of a decent crowd with Bears and Thunder both playing away. The action takes place at Portslade Leisure Centre.

Bognor are at Brixton tomorrow (4pm).
