An exotic cat who became aggressive after his sexual advances were spurned is to face the snip.

Benson the serval has become increasingly aggressive towards zoo keepers at Drusillas Park, Alfriston, and staff put the problem down to sexual frustration.

His female companion, Sahara, was given a contraceptive injection and as her passion waned, Benson's frustration increased.

Head keeper Mark Kenward said: "It is very unlike Benson to show so much aggression and we decided it had to be something to do with his missus.

"She's just not interested in his advances and keeps giving him the brush-off. This has caused Benson to become sexually frustrated and he took it out on Sahara and us.

"Servals are not an endangered species and so breeding is not recommended."

The cat may now undergo a vasectomy or castration.

Mr Kenward said: "We're in contact with our vets and will make a final decision in the New Year."

Servals are found in Africa. They are extremely agile and can jump 10ft in the air to catch birds.
