Everyone should take their grandpa to see Grandad's Big Adventure. If you don't have one, borrow someone else's.

The show is aimed at four to eight-year-olds but it is a magical delight for any age.

Charles Way's tale tells the story of Tracy and her Grandad who find themselves in hospital on a snowy Christmas Eve.

While they wait for their operations, in blows a mysterious woman claiming to be Tomtemor, wife of the gift-giver Tomtefar, better known to us as Father Christmas.

Tomtefar has lost his nerve and cannot drive his sleigh. His wife is now stranded thousands of miles from the North Pole and unless Tracy and Grandad help, Christmas will be ruined for millions of children.

So, still in their pyjamas, they head off on the adventure of a lifetime.

The show is simply but beautifully presented with exactly the right mix of fantasy, charm, humour and poignancy.

Another bonus is the layout of the Minerva. The closeness to the stage makes the audience feel part of the action and because the seats are above the stage, everyone gets a clear view If you only see one show this Christmas, make it this one. Frosty, sparkling, Christmassy and uplifting, it is a real festive treat.
