Something Else is really Something Else or, rather, the central character in this charming and funny piece of theatre for the over threes.
Adapted from Kathryn Cave's original picture book, it is brought to the stage as a three-hander by the award-winning Tall Stories theatre company who appeared at Komedia last year in The Gruffalo.
Narrated by the company's co-founder Toby Mitchell, it is packed with entertaining antics and cheerful songs to underline the story and to delight its young audience (and their parents).
Something Else (Sharon Morwood) is a furry creature who lives alone in a neat and tidy little house high on a hill.
The only thing he wants for is a friend but when he ventures out on his brolly 'copter, his overtures of friendship are rejected by, for example, a pair of delightfully snobbish, tennis-set giraffes.
But friendship comes knocking in the shape of the zany and overbearing Something (Angela Laverick).
While our shy and fastidious hero is reluctant at first, he soon realises he has more in common with Something than at first sight.
The set is well designed, bright and colourful, with a large chair and a door as the main props, and is enough to prompt young imaginations without impeding the progress of the story.
The hard-working cast hold the audience's attention with clear, upbeat presentation and participation.
Something Else's dilemma will be familiar to any child starting school and, at one-hour long, the show makes a good introduction to live theatre.
Tickets cost £7 for adults, £5 for children. Call 01273 647100.
