A group of travellers were forced to move their homes on Christmas Eve.
Officers at West Sussex County Council told people living in eight caravans parked near the Broadfield Stadium, Crawley, to pack up and leave.
The caravans had been parked in a lay-by near the stadium on the A23 and the council said they were blocking an emergency route.
A representative said: "The caravans were blocking emergency access for Broadfield Stadium.
"If there had been a problem at the stadium, no vehicles from the emergency services would have been able to get in or out."
