I must convey my heartfelt thanks to the East Sussex Health Authority.
I was admitted to Eastbourne District General Hospital in mid-June with a malignant brain tumour.
The care was wonderful - always smiling faces, nothing too much trouble. I was waiting for a place to become available at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre in Haywards Heath. The care continued. It was amazing. Everyone was so kind, from beginning to end. There I made some wonderful friends through a troubling time but they made it half the battle to all who were involved.
After my operation, I was transferred back to Eastbourne for aftercare and the loving care continued, right through from hospital domestics and ambulance drivers to consultants. They all played their part in my recovery and played it well.
When I was well enough, I was allowed home. Radiotherapy followed six weeks later at the Brighton Cancer Centre and, dare I say it, the loving care continued. Let me say I was in the NHS for many years and the standards of care are as good now as they were then. We seem to forget that healthcare is so advanced these days but we do not have the amount of staff to support it. Consequently, they need our support and our patience.
I send my heartfelt thanks to all those who helped during my treatment there and all the staff involved. I would also like to thank those wonderful Macmillan nurses. We should be proud of them all and give them as much support as we can so they can continue in doing such a worthwhile job, helping others like myself and proving that having cancer is not the end but the beginning to realising there are some wonderful people out there to help you on the road to recovery.
