Steve Sidwell snatched a dramatic point for Albion with a last-gasp double.

The midfielder on loan from Arsenal struck on 88 and 89 minutes to salvage an unlikely draw.

Burnley seemed to be well in command thanks to goals by Glen Little (44) and substitue Ian Moore (71).

But Sidwell became Albion's goalscoring hero again in astonishing fashion after his match winner at Norwich on Boxing Day.

Steve Coppell's side struggled to reproduce the form they showed at Norwich before a crowd of 6,502 at Withdean.

It might have been a less demanding afternoon for Albion had Sidwell not shot wide in the second minute from a Bobby Zamora pass.

Burnley made the most of that escape. Michel Kuipers, unable to kick due to a thigh injury, made saves from Gareth Taylor and Alan Moore before Little finally beat him.

Kuipers stopped the Burnley midfielder's first shot but could do nothing about Little's follow up.

An inspired substitution by Coppell's former Crystal Palace assistant Stan Ternent led to Burnley's second goal.

The Clarets' boss brought on Ian Moore in place of namesake Alan on 70 minutes.

The substitute scored with his first touch, ramming in the rebound after his header had been blocked by a combination of Kuipers and the post.

The game seemed to be well and truly up for Albion at that stage, but Sidwell had other ideas.

He gave them hope by cutting inside to crack home a right foot drive.

Sidwell then forced Zamora's cross over the line from close range, his fifth goal for the club.

Albion remain next to bottom after Sheffield Wednesday, the side below them, lost 3-2 to a late goal at third bottom Stoke.

Grimsby drew 1-1 at home to Norwich, so the Seagulls stay six points adrift of safety ahead of the New Year's Day visit by Wimbledon.
