Police have apologised for delays in investigating the theft of a bike on Boxing Day.
The £300 Raleigh Max was taken from outside Unwins off-licence in Ladies Mile Road, Patcham, Brighton.
Ray Rathbone, father of 16-year-old Josh who owned the bike, said police had not even looked at the store's CCTV footage, which may show the thief.
Store manager Lance Jermey said: "The thief was a bit uneasy. He was looking at stuff on the bottom shelf and seemed very panicky when a lot of customers came in.
"He made a purchase and left but took the lad's bike, which was resting against the shop window."
Mr Rathbone, of Stoneleigh Avenue, said Josh chased the thief and got his cap, which he handed in at the store. Mr Jermey said it had not been collected by officers.
Chief Inspector Lance Gray said: "We regret the delay. We have had a very busy time over Christmas and I will contact the Rathbones personally to apologise."
