It is obvious to me Brighton and Hove's parking attendants are not here to stop traffic congestion and hazards to the roads but to make as much money as possible.

I read Brighton and Hove City Council has to make £5 million in three years to cover the cost. It's well on the way to doing that in two, isn't it?

Around Dorothy Stringer School is a building site where the vans double, sometimes treble, park.

I understand they have to deliver - but not all day. Where is the traffic warden when this is happening? He is at the school, doing the mums who run their kids there because it's a trouble-free £30. I have phoned and phoned the council to speak to the parking customer service manager, Paul Nicholas, but -surprise, surprise - he doesn't call back.

One morning, walking to work having parked my car in Madeira Drive, I saw a fire engine pull up in the loading bay, all the firemen jump out and run over to the Madeira Cafe for breakfast.

Then I saw a tow truck do the exact same thing. It parked in the bus stop opposite the cafe and the two council workers ate their breakfast. This outraged me. I can't believe the double standards. If you and I were to do that, it would be an instant ticket. How many times and how many people have been caught just running into the shop, especially where I live, in Saltdean?

In Saltdean, we all chuck our cars into the bus stop on double yellows to run into the Co-op or the post office. Because we are a community, nobody gets angry if you block them in. They beep their horn, you go out and move your car and wave.

They wave back and smile to say it is okay because they would have done the same thing. But now the traffic wardens are getting themselves into Saltdean and ticketing us there. They drive to Saltdean and park in the one-hour zone in Longridge Avenue and set about their business of screwing us, in our own community, for £30.

Do they go back and move their cars each hour or do they leave them where they are because they are the ones with the ticket-giving machine and are not going to ticket their own cars?

We, the bad public, should be shown a good example.
