Crawley did their survival chances a power of good and shook up the title race with a storming display at Willoughby Fields.
New boy Alan Sands, who is proving a real success at scrum half, grabbed the second half try which clinched an impressive 11-3 win over London Four South East high-flyers Bromley.
It was a tremendous all round display from Crawley, who were given the boost of two early Andy Evans penalties to take a 6-3 interval lead.
They are now pulling clear of the drop zone and coach Steve Silver is looking up rather than down.
He said: "If we can string performances like this consistently throughout the season, the opposition will find it extremely difficult to play against us. A place in the top four is our target."
Chichester took full advantage of that good news with a 10-8 win at Old Dunstonians though they were made to battle all the way.
Teenage outside half Jack Smallman was the match winner. He kicked a penalty just before half-time to cut Dunstonians' lead to 8-3, then took a pass from returning scrum half Simon Bradford to score Chi's only try with 15 minutes to go.
Smallman's subsequent conversion clinched the points.
Victory put Chi back on track after their pre-Christmas defeat at home to Bognor.
Prop Frank Corby admitted: "We rate Dunstonians as one of the best sides in the division and we had earmarked this as a very difficult game to win so we were delighted."
Hove's £50,000 investment in drainage at their new Recreation Ground home paid off as they enjoyed a 39-10 home win over Heathfield in excellent conditions.
Coach Rob Kift got a start at full back and marshalled an impressive Hove display, as well as kicking four conversions and two penalties.
Wing Ashley Drakeford scored twice with Ben Davies, Struan Robertson and Carl Pittaway also claiming tries.
Skipper Richard Jackson said: "There were a few cobwebs after the Christmas break but I thought we were dominant."
Daniel Mitchell scored the Heathfield try with Lewis Beale slotting the conversion and a penalty but the visitors felt they were guilty of conceding some soft tries.
Bognor's home clash with Folkestone was called off. They try again next Saturday.
In Sussex One, Horsham received a walkover from UC Chichester.
