Horsham consolidated second spot in Ryman League division one south with a 1-1 draw with Bromley at a frozen Queen Street.
With table-topping Carshalton going down 1-0 away to Dulwich, this will be considered a good point against a fast-improving Bromley side with promotion ideas of their own.
Hornets are now ten points behind the leaders with a game in hand but there is still much to play for in the second half of the season with a cluster of clubs challenging for the top spots.
Assistant-manager Ali Rennie said: "We are not too disappointed with a draw.
"Considering the condition of the pitch, which was bordering on unplayable, both teams adapted well and played some good stuff.
"You are always disappointed to drop points at home but Bromley are a good side and knocked the ball around well.
"With Carshalton losing, you could say we gained a point."
The Hornets had the best of the first half and took the lead after 12 minutes.
Some neat interplay between Rob Collins and Gavin Geddes cut through the Bromley defence. As the ball was half cleared to Collins wide on the left he lifted a stunning lob into the corner of the goal from 25 yards.
It could have been 2-0 on 20 minutes. Lee Carney charged through the middle and slipped the ball to Geddes on the left. The striker's shot lacked power however and gave goalkeeper Chuck Martini few problems.
Martini was also called into action on the half hour. Stuart Hardy's right wing cross was beautifully controlled by Geddes 20 yards out and his snapshot forced the keeper into a diving save.
The pitch became even more difficult in the second period and Bromley initially coped the better. Their early pressure eventually paid off in the 61st minute when John Wilfort crashed the ball into the left corner from 20 yards.
As Horsham came more into the game Geddes shot on the turn from 25 yards in the 72nd minute and the ball crashed on to the top of the bar with Martini beaten.
Collins has now scored five goals in the last six games to take his tally to 15 for the campaign.
Rennie said: "Rob took his goal very well. We didn't make a lot of chances, neither side did, but both teams did well in spite of the state of the pitch."
Horsham's match was just one of two to go ahead in Sussex last night as the cold weather claimed another wave of casualties. Lewes' match with Met Police was called off an hour before kick off.
