A night clubber was found by security staff in a toilet with two women's handbags, a court heard.
Mamor Malik was removing valuable items, including bank cards, cash and mobile phones.
He denied stealing the bags from the women at Creation night club in West Street, Brighton.
They had left them on a chair while they were dancing. He said he found them in the toilet.
Malik, 21, of Zion Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey, admitted two charges of handling stolen goods when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court.
Mark Bishop, prosecuting, told the court one of the bags contained the owner's medication.
Amy Packham, defending, said Malik had been drinking and had behaved out of character.
The case was adjourned until Friday for sentencing. Malik was bailed.
