So, the BBC has sacked Jimmy Young for being too old at 81. I understand his programme was immensely popular and he did not wish to stand down.

This is yet another example of ageism in the media.

Here at Coastway Hospital Radio no such restriction applies.

In fact, we welcome more mature volunteers. Our oldest presenter, Ron Wallbank, is of a similar age to Jimmy and we value his knowledge and experience and have no plans to sack him.

In fact, we could do with a few more like him.
