The famous "Jane", of Daily Mirror fame, was one of twins. Her real name was Christabel Leighton-Porter.
Jane had called the evening before and recalled me sitting in Max Miller's sports car outside a pub in North Road where most of the cast had adjourned.
It was very gratifying she should remember this. There's another story there, though - perhaps someone will ask me later - some interesting conversations I had with Max when he linked supporting actors in Hollywood with old Vaudeville acts.
At a Typhoon And Tempest meeting at Shoreham Airport a few years ago, Jane and I spoke at length of Hollywood supporting actors.
Her husband, Arthur Porter, had been a Second World War fighter pilot. Michael Bentine was his intelligence officer in the wartime RAF.
I also have several letters from Jane, who died in December 2000, aged 87.
