A couple of months ago, The Argus printed a letter from a lady in Australia asking for any former pupils of Elm Grove School who remember her to write to her.
Her single name was Brenda Bassett, which I seemed to recall, as I was the secretary to the headmaster of the junior school and to the headmistress of the girls' secondary school, which was upstairs in the same building.
I wrote to her and have had a reply in which she says she is now 49 and after she left school became a hairdresser.
She married and emigrated to Australia. She now has two sons and two grandsons.
Later on, her parents and sisters also went to Australia and are still there.
She remembers Mrs Bailey, Mrs Shipp, Mrs Randall, Mrs Machachlan and Miss Alexander.
She then goes on to say: "I have had your reply. I thank you so much for taking the time to write, it was so kind of you."
Now, I remember there were some lovely girls at Elm Grove. Surely a few of you could write to Brenda?
It would be a lovely New Year present for her. Come on, girls.
Her address is: Mrs Brenda Grundy, 17 Shannon Street, Woolridge, Brisbane, Australia 4114 or email Brenyann@aol.com
