Did you know the phrase "botch job" originated in Brighton and Hove?
According to the city council's very own web site, Jeremy Botch (1770-1834) made a chinois screen that fell on the heads of the Prince Regent and Mrs Fitzherbert.
He became notorious for the unreliable character of his work and spent the rest of his life in search of places his reputation had not yet reached.
I have the feeling his ancestors are, however, still at work in the city.
