Four information boards have been unveiled in Goring by the Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Eric Mardell.

The boards, illustrated by artist Jenny Hawksley with pictures of birds, butterflies and plants, are mounted on oak stands.

They form part of an initiative to make the public more aware of the special character of Goring Gap, an important habitat for many species of insects, birds and mammals and one of the few places where farmland comes down to the sea.

One of the boards, which were organised by the Ilex Conservation Group, is on the sea wall in the centre of Goring Gap while the others are spaced along Ilex Avenue, the boulevard of trees linking Goring and Ferring.

The boards cost £4,800 and were funded with contributions from the Awards For All Jubilee Fund, West Sussex County Council, and Goring Gap Preservation Trust.
