Six nightclubs are likely to have their public entertainments licences renewed without opposition.

Councillors will consider the issue at a meeting of Worthing Borough Council's licensing and control committee on Monday, when the following clubs will come under scrutiny: Lush, on Worthing Pier; XS in Railway Approach; Occasions at Connaught House, Marine Parade;

Liquid Lounge in Chatsworth Road;

Burlington Hotel (Tides) in Marine Parade and 3TO in Chapel Road.

Borough council environmental health officer David Bowen said:

"Entertainment premises in and around Chapel Road have remained the general focus of much public attention during the past year.

"However, there have not been any specific issues since the last renewals, which would justify the refusal of the renewals.

"Through the Clubwatch organisation, the nightclub operators have, during the past year, supported a number of local initiatives aimed at reducing the level of late-night crime and disorder in the town centre.

"A radio network system has been introduced to link the police and door security staff at licensed premises.

"Clubwatch is sponsoring a number of new glass-litter bins required in association with the forthcoming scheme to tackle the problems of anti-social drinking."
