Some months ago, Brighton and Hove City Council's planning committee approved an application to build 124 flats, including 50 low-cost units, on the Endeavour Motors site in Preston Road, Brighton.
The building will be of six storeys, vastly different from the new proposal to erect a 16-storey tower.
I and my colleagues in the Preston Park Labour Action Team, Councillors Juliet McCaffery and Mike Middleton, regard this latest proposal as utterly unacceptable.
Selma Montford (Letters, January 9) must surely have read Coun McCaffery's memorable description of the proposed tower as a "phallic egocentricity". Our opposition is unambiguous. We support local residents in their fight to prevent this monstrosity.
