And so it begins. The Albion will need more land for the proposed stadium (The Argus, January 15). What a surprise.
I think we can all be assured this will not be the end of it, either. As the club's playing fortunes improve, as we all hope they do, they will attract more supporters.
More supporters will mean more traffic. More traffic will mean more parking space. So, little by little, the stadium will enlarge, nibbling away at the Downs. I only hope this is realised by the powers that be at the public inquiry and the plans for the stadium are put where they belong - in the bin.
It is interesting to note that Fulham FC, a Premiership club, now believe there is no business case to build a 28,000 seat stadium at Craven Cottage. So why do the Albion, an almost second-division club, think theirs will be any different?
