Defender Clay Lamont's dramatic late equaliser earned Withdean a fourth round replay against Diss Town.

Withdean now face a four-hour trip to Norfolk for tomorrow night's replay following a thrilling 2-2 draw at Woodside Road on Saturday.

Roy Pook gave the home side a half-time lead on 22 minutes, but his goal was cancelled out by Coren Hardy's neat finish on 57 minutes which took the game into extra time.

Lee Gilman's goal three minutes into the added period looked to have won it for the visitors but Lamont's 20-yard effort two minutes from the end ensured Withdean got a second chance.

For Lamont, however, the journey won't be a problem as he works as a building surveyor in Norwich one day a week, just 20 miles from Diss's ground.

He said: "I work on a site up there about once a week so it will be nothing new. I will probably go up there and work on Tuesday and go to the match afterwards because it's just down the road from Norwich.

"It will be a laugh at work and one of my mates plays for Diss reserves, so we will be taking the mickey out of each other."

Lamont was delighted with his last-gasp leveller. He picked the ball up on the edge of the penalty area after a corner had been half-cleared and lashed a left foot shot into the bottom corner.

He said: "I haven't played for over a month because I've been on holiday and games have been called off so it was really good to score right at the end.

"I'm right footed but it fell to my left so I just took a touch and it sat up and I just caught it nicely."

The draw was a fair result after both sides had spells in charge on a heavy Woodside Road pitch.

Withdean controlled the first half and took the lead through Pook's low angled shot from the edge of the area.

After the break Diss, managed by former Norwich, Chelsea and Scotland international striker Robert Fleck, were the team on top.

Hardy, who is an inmate at Norwich prison and is given temporary leave to play in matches, equalised with a side-foot volley from Scott Lindsay's cross.

Gilman then set up a grandstand finish by firing into the top corner from 20-yards early in extra time.

Withdean chief executive Alan Pook was pleased with his side's performance but admitted not having a game for almost a month had taken its toll on his players.

He said: "I was really pleased with the character we showed to score so late in the game. But we haven't played since December 20 and I think it showed a bit because they seemed sharper than we were.

"I think it will be a very different game in the replay because we had a few players who did not play so well and if they perform like they can in the replay then I think we will give them a shock."

Diss, winners of the Vase in 1994, had prepared for the game by travelling down the day before and spending the night in Sussex.

Pook has ruled out such luxuries for his side's return journey, but has promised to be fully prepared for the re-match. He began by hauling his players in for an extra training session yesterday.

He said: "We will have a Sunday training session to give ourselves every opportunity for the replay. It won't be a tough session, just get a few limbs loosened, massage and jacuzzi to get everybody together and discuss the game.

"We won't be spending the night there like they did, we will go up in the morning. I just hope everyone can get time off work because it's short notice."

Fleck was disappointed his side had not taken the £800 prize money and a place in the next round.

He said: "I didn't think a draw was a fair result, I thought we had done enough to win the game. The pitch didn't help, I thought it spoiled the game a little bit.

"It will be a good pitch for the replay so hopefully the football side will come out. I was told they were a footballing side so it should be a very different game."
