Chichester shook off their relegation fears with a tremendous performance to beat leaders Old Georgians 3-1 in the Southern Premier.
The home side were forced to sustain heavy Old Georgians pressure in the first ten minutes but their defence was impenetrable.
As the skillful visitors grew more impatient the Chichester midfield slowly shook off the Christmas cobwebs and took hold of the game.
Ollie Lane-Smith found Peter Turner with a 40-yard pass and he duly converted to make it 1-0.
Old Georgians levelled soon after but within minutes Adam Beere ghosted past his marker and put Lane-Smith through for a stunning shot that went in off the far post.
The second-half was balanced on a knife-edge with Chichester conceding several penalty corners, but the home defence stood firm.
Chances came and went for both sides. For Chi, Beere hit both uprights in one shot and the side netting moments later while Neil Pendle sent a rocket shot inches over the crossbar.
Turner sealed victory five minutes from time, scoring from an excellent short corner routine involving Rob Pywell and Danny Jaeger.
Victory lifted Chi one place up the table to fourth from bottom ahead of Saturday's visit to City of Portsmouth.
Eastbourne suffered golden goal agony as they crashed out of the HA Vase 5-4 away to Devizes.
Defeat was hard on Eastbourne who found themselves two goals behind on three occasions but fought back to force extra time.
